  • Forty Thieves and a Green-Eyed Girl Read an excerpt of an early version of my middle-grade novel, a retelling of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves from the slave girl’s perspective. It won first place in the Middle Grade category in Hunger Mountain’s 2011 Katherine Paterson Prize and a later version was chosen as the winner of the 2015 Eldin Memorial Fellowship.


  • The Secret Zoo “The Secret Zoo,” published in Hunger Mountain, is a Middle-Grade short story set in occupied Warsaw, inspired by true events in the Zabiniski family’s lives.
